I lauded the initiative of the government to straighten the tarnished image of the civil service by viewing it seriously on the latest Auditor General annual reports. It is better late than never. But the stigma embeded is on its transparency to inform the rakyat and the adoption of non selective actions.
It will be great if the Auditor General annual reports will not be viewed as just an obligation but more of facts finding and rectification process for the country to excel as a fully developed country with disciplined civil servants and a first class law abiding citizen.
Never deny the roles of the civil servants and their contributions but simultaneously never to overlook their incriminating acts and arrogant attitude. Time and again we heard the grouses of the citizen (especially the under-privilege) the civil servants had always placed themselves at a superior status. They have forgotten how they earn their living and why they are known as "civil servant."
Undeniable that only a small fraction of the civil servants belong to the unwarranted attitude and perceptions but if this group of people being given to much of considerations or leniency gradually it will affect the expediency and the integrity of the government on the whole. One must not forget that these civil servants who are responsible or act as the implementors to the government policies. They are the trustees of the government policies and the well being of the citizen and the country.
In taking what ever appropriate actions against these culprits all stone s must be unturned. No matter what the status, categories and linkage all must face the music. It will be ideal if all actions be made known to the citizen as to inform the citizen that the government will not condoned to such incriminating and immoral act. Just like the Port Klang issue what happened to the committee of inquiry which was also headed by the Chief Secretary. Why wait, the progress of the inquiry must be told, never hope that the citizen will forget. The idea of announcing after completion is also raised the non-confidence of the citizen. All these inquiries should also be included in the KPI especially the time frame of its completion. The longer the the time required the more avenues for the culprits to escape. Hope whatever already being announced is not an eye wash ,just to fool the citizen.
